The first posthumous collection of M. L. Gasparov's works (in six volumes) aims to convey as fully as possible the multifaceted nature of his scientific interests and to present the main directions of his work. The materials collected in the sixth and final volume familiarize us with the scholar's thoughts about science and people in it, about his profession and research methods, about enlightenment and education, about the place of philology and humanitarian knowledge in general in our daily lives. The volume opens with the book "Notes and Extracts", compiled by Gasparov from fragments of his notebooks, supplemented by reminiscences, letters, answers to questionnaires and interviews. Articles, reviews, prefaces, notes, programs and outlines of small lecture courses, memoir fragments, letters, questionnaires and interviews, also included in the volume, supplement this book to a great extent. The reader - as if from the inside, through the eyes of one of the brightest scholars, a classical philologist, a researcher of the history of Russian poetry, and a poet - will be able to look at the most fruitful era in the development of humanitarian knowledge, which turned out to be the last four decades of the twentieth century, to visualize the logic of research thought, and to get acquainted with M.
