Irina Antonova is the only museum figure whose name is widely known not only in professional circles. A legendary director of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, a person who was in love with the great art of the past and discovered contemporary artists, an innovator in the museum business, she was able not only to show art within the walls of her museum, but also to talk about it, infecting us with her enthusiasm and love. Since the 1960s, she lectured about art, and for the last twenty years of her life she hosted her own program, The Fifth Dimension, which became an anthology of stories about artists, paintings, museums, and collectors. This book focuses on an important twist in the study of art history, the "eternal themes of art," and is organized into four large sections: "Love," "The Hero," "Man and Nature," and "Still Life." Each section is accompanied by color reproductions of paintings and photographs of sculptures from the collection of the Pushkin Museum.
