"The Sound and the Fury" is Faulkner's magnum opus, adapted into numerous films and included in Time magazine's list of the 100 best English-language novels. It's a novel that continues to evoke debate. It's a fantastically virtuosic narrative form that's not easy to navigate. The writer's most significant artistic breakthrough was the fact that in one section the novel is narrated by a mentally retarded man, while in another, it's told from the perspective of his brother, who is gradually losing his mind. This text may seem difficult to read—at times, punctuation is practically absent, and some sentences are simply unfinished. But thanks to this, we begin to better understand the characters, literally penetrating their souls, which produces an absolutely stunning effect.
