Valentin Semenovich Nepomnyashchy (1934-2020) burst into Pushkin studies in the second half of the last century—and yes, burst on: a classical philologist by training, he seemingly accidentally encountered the element of Pushkin's words and immersed himself in them forever. He began studying Pushkin "in reverse": not from biography to poetry and prose, but from prose and poetry to biography, and he called his method an art-historical term: "reverse perspective." This perspective revealed a new, complex, and profound spiritual world to the poet, in which the sublime occupies a far more important place than had previously been assumed. V.S. Nepomnyashchy used the concept of the "Pushkin phenomenon." In this book, the reader will become partially acquainted with his works, illuminating the phenomenon of Pushkin in the historical destiny of Russia. They will help the reader appreciate not only the author's insightful thought but also understand why Valentin Semenovich's research method is called the "Nepomnyashchy phenomenon."
