Half a century has passed since it was first published, but "Amendment-22" remains a cornerstone of American literature and one of the most celebrated books of all time. "Time," "Newsweek," "Modern Library," and "London Observer" have all included it on their "best novels" lists, and it ranks 11th on the BBC's "200 Best Books" list.
This original story about the service of U.S. Air Force pilots during World War II is full of absurd situations, no less absurd funny dialog, crazy characters and absurd bureaucratic conflicts associated with a certain not existing on paper, but from this no less effective "Amendment-22" in the law, stating that "anyone who wants to evade a combat mission is normal and, therefore, fit for combat" ...
It is difficult to call this work just an anti-war novel. It is a deep and comprehensive satire on our everyday life, way of life and principles of "civilized" society.
