In his book, the French philosopher and sociologist Bruno Latour develops an original project of "experimental metaphysics." Its main goal is to develop a new concept of political ecology that would allow scientific practices to be combined with the democratic decision-making process, which requires a simultaneous revision of three fundamental concepts of Western philosophy: logos, physis, and polis. Drawing on developments in the sociology of science, comparative anthropology, political philosophy, as well as a fundamentally new understanding of the practice of environmental movements, Latour proposes a program for building a "common world" in which non-human actors participate on an equal footing with humans.
