"I don't share anyone's opinions, I have my own..." This is the credo of medical student Yevgeny Bazarov, the protagonist of Ivan Turgenev's most famous novel. Bazarov considers himself a nihilist, rejecting all ideals and values. But why did the author himself call such a strong personality, with a clear and logical mind, a "tragic face"? Some of Turgenev's contemporaries saw Bazarov as a caricature of the "new man," while others, on the contrary, saw him as an ideal to emulate. But this image left no one indifferent. And, surprisingly, the hero continues to captivate modern readers. Indeed, although the historical context of the novel has faded into the past, the conflict between "fathers" and "sons" remains relevant throughout time. Artist Ekaterina Babok has interpreted this conflict and the novel's characters in her own way. Her subtle and lyrical illustrations seem to soften the heated debates between the “liberal fathers” and the “revolutionary children” and give a special poetic touch to the most discussed novel of the 1860s.
