Language, thinking, reality
14.99 €
The theory of the relationship between language and thought (the hypothesis of linguistic relativity, or the principle of linguistic relativism) has always attracted the attention of both the general public and specialists - admiringly applauded, dismissively dismissed, openly criticized. To what extent does language mediate our understanding of the world (perception, thinking and organizing information, all cognitive processes); is perception dependent on language, is it shaped by it; does it make us look at the world in a certain way?
None of the sciences has yet been able to provide unambiguous answers to these questions.
The present edition is a translation of the only collection of his works "Language, Thinking, Reality", which was published after the author's death. It includes articles on both general linguistic topics and special studies of the Hopi, Shoni, and Mayan languages, as well as the "Yale Report," a bold attempt by Wharf to outline a universal scheme of linguistic research that had been lying in the archives for a long time.
