The creative destiny of the American poet Emily Dickinson, born in the small town of Amherst, where she lived almost without leave until her death in voluntary recluse, is amazing. During Dickinson's lifetime, only seven of her poems were published anonymously, and her first small collection was published posthumously. Meanwhile, the richest poetic heritage of Dickinson are almost two thousand poems. Nature, love, the mystery of life and death - the main themes of her work, appreciated only in the early twentieth century, when Dickinson was recognized as one of the greatest American poets. Dickinson's poetry is characterized by a special, very personal intonation, unconventional metrics and rhyme, tense rhythm, laconism, abruptness, often making verse difficult to understand, as well as the richness and fastidiousness of associations, unusual freshness of perception, immediacy of feeling and vision.
